Pittsburgh-born Philadelphian prizefighter Eddie Chambers, whose professional career has been de-railed of late due to a succession of injuries, returns to the ring – and television – on June 16 at the Prudential Center, in Newark as he takes on former heavyweight world title challenger and two-weight world champion Tomasz Adamek in the Polish pugilist’s native New Jersey. Chambers wants to scalp Adamek in order to re-gain contender status.

“I never went away,” said Chambers, who was forced to pull out of bouts with Siarhei Liakhovich and Tony Thompson as he was not fighting fit. Chambers last boxed in February, 2011, edging Derric Rossy in what was his first contest since a 12 round mauling from Wladimir Klitschko.

Chambers, renowned for his fast hands, hopes to use the summer showdown with Adamek as a platform that will re-launch a significant presence in boxing’s no limit weight class: “Once I beat Adamek, I’m right back in the middle of it all. All respect to Tomasz… he’s exciting and has a lot of heart, but I’ll be ready for anything.”

Adamek, unfazed by Chambers’ skillset, is buoyed by his home advantage and will be the fresher of the two as it will be his second outing of the year, having already dispatched of journeyman Nagy Aguilera in March.

“They say Eddie Chambers has fast hands and likes to throw punches. I am also fast and I like to throw punches,” said the 35-year-old who has suffered defeats to only Vitali Klitschko and Chad Dawson in 47 professional battles. “I think on June 16 we will have a very exciting fight [and] for me the most important part of the fight is to please the boxing fans.

“At Prudential Center I always have many fans come to cheer me on, it is very loud, exciting. I think it will be a good show.”

The bout will be broadcast as part of NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night boxing series.
