Segura is a fast-rising pound-for-pound contender. His opportunity against Viloria will be his first attempt at becoming a two-weight world champion. He is accustomed to travel having boxed in the US as well, his native Mexico and even has experience fighting in a hostile arena as his first match against the previously undefeated Ivan Calderon was in Calderon’s hometown of Guaynabo in Puerto Rico.

Viloria, meanwhile, has also attracted great acclaim in his career due to being a 2000 US Olympian and being a three-time world champ as a pro. Integrated Sports Media president Doug Jacobs said of the Viloria and Segura card: “We’re looking forward to bringing this action-packed card, headlined by two of the best lighter weight fighters in the world, Viloria and Segura, to US boxing fans.”

“This exciting show continues the heated Filipino versus Mexican boxing rivalry that is one of the most intense in the sport today,” he added.

Commenting on his history with Segura, Viloria said: “I’ve sparred with Segura in the past and we beat the hell out of each other. It was the kind of sparring where we could have charged the audience for an entrance fee and they wouldn’t have complained. Segura is a very dangerous opponent for me but, if I beat him, I’ll get to keep my title and grab his slot in Ring’s pound-for-pound rankings.”
