Roy Jones Jr to contest ten rounds of cruiserweight action with Max Alexander

Denzil Stone – Atlantic City

Former pound-for-pound king Roy Jones Jr will be looking to halt a run of three successive defeats when he takes on Max Alexander in a ten round cruiserweight fight on December 10 in Atlantic, Georgia. Alexander has not recorded a win since 2007, while Jones Jr suffered losses to Danny Green, Bernard Hopkins and Denis Lebedev. He has not tasted triumph since his 2009 retiring of Jeff Lacy.

Despite Jones Jr’s form, he did enjoy sporadic success versus Lebedev in Russia five months ago. Winning rounds one and seven, Jones Jr showed good combination work in the opening stanza but became increasingly fatigued as the rounds piled up.

For the majority of the contest, Junior (54-8-0, 8ko) appeared second best when it came to conditioning, work-rate and eventually succumbed to a tenth round stoppage.

By consistently mixing it with the world’s elite, Jones Jr is taking a considerable step down in class by aligning himself with Alexander. Junior, from Pensacola, Florida, is a former middleweight and super middleweight titlist, the undisputed light heavyweight king and a heavyweight champion.
